Brno, the Moravian capital, is a city of universities, a business hub, galleries, museums, cafés, clubs and festivals. The most visited and remarkable sights of the city include the Špilberk castle and fortress, the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on Petrov hill, two medieval buildings that dominate the cityscape and are often depicted as its traditional symbols, or the Ossuary of St. James´, the second largest ossuary in the Europe. Another architectural monument of Brno is the functionalist villa Tugendhat, which has been included on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Venue of the Symposium

HAKONE XV will take place in the hotel Santon in Brno, situated on the beautiful shore of Brno dam. All participants will stay at the hotel in order to encourage close contacts between participants. The participants will be accommodated in single or double rooms, according to preference. The tram station "Přístaviště" is a 5 min walk from the hotel Santon. If you travel by car it is possible to park directly at the hotel. The parking is free of charge. The conference fee includes the access to the wellnes area (120 min per day) and free wi-fi.

How to reach Brno

By air

There are two big international airports close to Brno: 
Prague International Airport, Czech Republic - from Prague you can take a EuroCity or railjet train to Brno, which takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Vienna International Airport, Austria - from Vienna you can take a EuroCity or railjet train to Brno, which takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Also, as an option, you should consider Brno International Airport. However, it operates flights only from and to London, UK; Eindhoven, NL; and Munich, GE.

By bus

The easiest way to reach Brno from the nearest airports Prague International Airport and Vienna International Airport is by regiojet buses, which depart right from the vicinity of airport terminals.
You can book the tickets online on regiojet websites for both Prague and Vienna. If you come from Vienna, please pay attention to the important notice appearing during reservation, which states, that you need to change bus in station Vienna, Stadioncenter. Buses from both Prague and Vienna arrive in the vicinity of the Brno railway station (about 300m).

By train

From Vienna: Brno is well connected with Vienna by Eurocity and railjet trains which depart every two hours for both directions.
From Prague: Brno is connected with Prague either by Eurocity and railjet trains or local trains and buses. The journey from Prague to Brno by Eurocity train takes 2 hours and 30 minutes.
From Bratislava: Brno is connected with Bratislava, Slovakia with Eurocity and railjet trains or buses. The journey from Bratislava to Brno by Eurocity train takes 1 hour and 30 minutes.

By car

To reach Brno by car it is easiest to take the motorways D1 (from Prague), D2 (from Bratislava) and E461 (from Vienna).

By tram

The easiest way how to reach hotel Santon from the railway station is by tram no. 1 direction Bystr-Ečerova (heading left viewed from the railway station building). The tram stop of tram no.1 is the one furthest from the building of railway station. You will need a 60minutes ticket prized 25Kč (approx. 1€). You can buy it in the automat situated in the tram stop or from the salesperson in the railway station building. If you pay by card, declare this intention strongly in advance in order to avoid useless remarks from the salesperson. After you board the tram, do not forget to validate it in the yellow box. After about 25minutes you will reach your destination - tram stop Přístaviště. The tram microphone always announces the next stop so that you can get ready. By taxi

Apart from mass transportation system you can also use taxi to reach the hotel. City Taxi is widely available near railway station and you can order the drive on +420 542 321 321.

EU nationals do not require a visa to enter the Czech Republic. Lists of states whose citizens are required to have a visa can be found here. Letters of invitation can be sent by the conference office on request.
